Lake Michigan dunes

We somersaulted down the dunes to the shore of the lake, and as the others played barefoot games on the sand I sat on the little half-meter ridge by the water and watched the clouds a million miles away. There were slow little waves from the wind off the storm in Canada but also a slower rise-and-fall every half-hour as she flowed in her muse-skirt down the line of broken shells, perpendicular to the tideswells that everybody knows lakes don't have -- west toward distant Chicago, east toward distant dunes, west, east, west, east...
